About This Logo Design

The World Wide Fund for Nature or WWF is an international non-governmental organization or NGO that works on issues regarding the research, conservation, and restoration of the environment. It was formerly named the World Wildlife Fund. WWF was conceived on 29 April 1961, under the name of World Wildlife Fund, and its first office was opened on 11th September that same year. WWF’s world renowned panda logo was designed by its founder chairman, the naturalist and painter Sir Peter Scott, in 1961, from preliminary sketches that were made by a Scottish naturalist, Gerald Watterson. The highly recognized panda logo of WWF originated from a panda named Chi Chi that was transferred from the Beijing Zoo to the London Zoo in 1961.
