About This Logo Design

Zippo Manufacturing Company manufactures Zippo lighters which are refillable, metal lighters. In 1932, George G. Blaisdell founded Zippo Manufacturing Companyand and produced the first Zippo lighter in early 1933, having been inspired by an Austrian cigarette lighter of related design. The name was from the word “zipper” which Blaisdell liked the sound of, and “zippo” sounded more modern. Zippo gained popularity as “windproof” lighters, and the lighters are able to stay lit in harsh weather. The zippo logo is text-based, featuring the word zippo in monochrome with a small flame, akin to a matchstick flame, taking the place of the dot above the small letter “I”.
